One of the fascinating upcoming features to look out for is the 2023 Silverado EV, an electric version of the traditionally gasoline or diesel-powered truck. Chevy’s parent company, General Motors, has expressed a commitment to transitioning every vehicle from all of their auto brands – including Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac – to electric power. That means no more diesel or gas-powered engines, but fully electric ones. Many people were shocked by this announcement from GM, especially because one of their brands, Chevy, is responsible for some of the biggest, toughest, and hardest working vehicles on the road. How is electric energy, the power source behind smart microcars, supposed to generate sufficient muscle for the three-row Suburban or, more importantly, the hard-working Silverado pickup?

General Motors is assuring the public that they’re developing the most powerful, capable electric engines yet – ones that won’t just replicate the towing power, payload capacity, and driving performance of their diesel and gas-powered vehicles but may actually improve on it! Here’s what to expect from the most exciting and possibly unusual development to come: the 2023 Chevy Silverado EV.

Performance You’ll Love

The upcoming Silverado EV may be electric-powered, but it will do what few other electric vehicles have before. In fact, this long-loved pickup will share a powertrain with the enormous Hummer EV, combining efficient power with performance good enough to get this beastly vehicle rolling. While horsepower and torque ratings have not been announced yet, we can still expect to get huge power out of three available electric motors. All-wheel drive will likely come standard, with optional rear-wheel drive to direct power from the back of the truck and optimize towing.

Don’t be fooled by the original “smart cars” that relied on electric power. Technology has improved since then, and by now, Chevy has the capability to engineer electric vehicles that are just as powerful and responsive as gasoline or diesel trucks. Efficiency and Range

Here’s the major selling point of the 2023 Silverado EV. Trucks have not been recognized for their fuel efficiency in the past, but this is all about to change. On a single charge, the Silverado EV is expected to have a whopping 400-mile driving range; that’s several hours of highway driving without the need to fill up and with no loss to driving performance.

All of this is thanks to the specially designed, 200-kWh battery available in the 2023 Silverado EV, which uses General Motors’ exclusive Ultium battery technology. These batteries are built to deliver reliable power while maintaining long, consistent battery life. That means fewer charges, more money saved, and a great-value vehicle in the long run.

Ultium batteries are designed to compete with Tesla in terms of compact engineering (they’re only up to a foot-and-a-half thick), power, and longevity. They’re quick to charge and offer an outstanding driving range. Of course, the Chevy Silverado EV will likely sit at a much lower MSRP than anything from Tesla.

Some drivers may be hesitant to consider an electric vehicle because of the perceived rarity of electric charging stations. However, charging up your electric Silverado doesn’t require that you visit a public charging station at all. That’s because Chevy will deliver its electric vehicles with versatile charging equipment, enabling easy at-home overnight charging. Put it to sleep and leave it to charge, then enjoy the 400-mile driving range the next day.

Trims and Options

The 2023 Silverado EV is expected to offer several trims and packages, each at a different price point and offering a distinct experience. The low-cost Silverado work truck will probably come with the basics, including durable, easy-to-clean seat upholstery with more towing and payload-oriented equipment. Meanwhile, mid-range trims like the LT and LTZ will likely make an appearance with more comfort and style features, as well as active driver-assist technology that makes this hard-working truck as safe to drive as it is hardy.

We can also expect a return of the Silverado High Country edition, the most luxurious trim Chevy offers, as well as the most elegant pickup trucks you can buy. While the details aren’t available yet, we can likely expect the same level of refinement we get from current High Country Silverado trucks: elegantly wrapped interior seating, improved infotainment and safety technology, special badging, beautiful cabin trim details, and more custom color options to select. General Motors is currently expanding its facilities to make room for the production of impressive electric vehicles, including their first all-electric trucks. From what we know so far, the new Silverado EV should debut as a 2023 model, though it may not arrive in early 2024. While the dates aren’t official yet, you can expect a full lineup of Chevy electric trucks by the middle of the decade.
