What’s New for the 2024 Silverado HD

If you need to get the tough jobs done right, you need a heavy-duty truck. But sometimes, you want more than just power. This is where the Chevy Silverado HD comes in. This line of two heavy-duty truck models also provides features that set them apart from other pickup trucks in their class. They have the comfort and convenience features you desire to go along with the rugged and powerful performance you think of when you look at a heavy-duty truck.
If you are looking for a Chevy Silverado for sale near Middleton, PA, then Raceway Chevrolet is the place to go. We offer a full lineup of new and used Chevy vehicles, including the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD. These two trucks, the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD, allow you to do the toughest tasks while looking good doing them. The 2024 model year is a refresh on the fourth generation of the Silverado HD. Right off the bat, you are going to notice a new, more refined grille featuring horizontal air intake bars with the famous Chevy bowtie logo. Chevy also added a pair of animated C-shaped light bars that surround the Silverado HD’s headlights for a modernized look—but the updates for 2024 don’t stop at a cooler front end!
More Power for the People
Once you’ve gotten finished looking at the cool new hood on the 2024 Silverado HD, you should pop it open to take a look inside. The 6.6L V8 gas engine received a transmission upgrade, now with the crème de la crème of the Allison ten-speed automatic. This is the same transmission featured on the Silverado HD with the 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8.
As a result of this upgrade, the capability of the 2024 Silverado HD with the V8 gas engine has received a serious boost. Where the 2023 Silverado 2500 HD could tow up to 17,370 lbs, the 2024 model can now tow 18,700 lbs. If you think that is impressive, take a look at the 2024 Silverado 3500 HD, which can tow up to 21,600 lbs—a substantial increase over the 17,200 lbs of maximum trailering capacity on last year’s model.
Chevy has also given more power to the 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8. This engine on the 2024 Silverado HD has been increased to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 25 hp and 65 lb-ft of torque over the 2023 model. The 2024 Silverado 2500 HD with the Turbo-Diesel can now tow up to 22,500 lbs and carry up to 3,850 lbs in its payload bed, compared to 18,510 lbs of towing and 3,715 lbs of cargo on the 2023 Silverado 2500 HD. This also improves the payload capacity of the 2024 Silverado 3500 HD with the available Turbo-Diesel engine, increasing from 6,532 lbs to 6,644 lbs.
A Heavy-Duty Interior Upgrade
The 2024 Silverado HD LT, LTZ, and High Country trims receive a significant upgrade in their interiors. Chevy is going for a more tech-forward approach with these heavy-duty truck models, emphasizing the instrumental panel. Each model comes with a Chevrolet infotainment system with a 13.4-inch touchscreen—the largest screen ever offered on a Chevy vehicle. This will make navigating the features easier than ever and help you pair your smartphone with the system using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Chevy now offers Google built-in on the Silverado HD, so you can access your Google Assistant while you drive. The controls for the audio system of your infotainment interface are set underneath the screen and are designed to achieve a balance between physical and digital control knobs.
The touchscreen for the infotainment is paired with a 12.3-inch driver information center. This is fully configurable to meet your needs and expectations. As Phil Zak, executive director of Global Chevrolet Design, explains, “It’s a more open-feeling and contemporary interior that passengers will find inviting. It’s an environment that intentionally puts more at the driver’s fingertips, for a greater feeling of confidence and connection with the vehicle.”
Completing the center console on the LT, LTZ, and High Country models of the 2024 Silverado HD is a wireless phone charger. This will allow you to leave the cumbersome charging cables for your smartphone at home, since they usually just get in the way. Instead, you can easily keep your device charged using the charging pad, which is located in an easily accessible space.

Designed to Make Trailering Easier and Trucking Safer
Chevy has always been dedicated to its passengers, and you can see this in the 2024 Silverado HD. Each truck comes with the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance technologies. Adaptive Cruise Control joins the team as an available safety feature; if a slower-moving vehicle enters the lane in front of you or if traffic slows down, the adaptive cruise control will adjust the speed on your Silverado HD to that of the vehicle in front of you. If traffic picks up or the slower vehicle exits your lane, it will return your truck to your desired speed. This feature also has a Trailer mode that accounts for the increased drag and stopping distance created when you tow a trailer with your truck.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD continues to offer a set of standard advanced driver assistance features that will keep you and your passengers safe in your heavy-duty truck. Following Distance Indicator lets you know if you are getting too close to the vehicle in front of you, limiting your braking distance. If the vehicle in front of you stops, the Forward Collision Alert will sound so you can hit the brakes. This will also engage the Automatic Emergency Braking so you can safely bring your truck to a stop or reduce the impact should a collision be unavoidable.
Trailering has its own concerns that Chevy has been able to address with its employment of enhanced technology. The 2024 Silverado HD offers an Enhanced Transparent Trailer view on the touchscreen, giving you a panorama of behind your truck as if the trailer wasn’t there, so you can see potential obstacles behind you. The enhancement allows it to work with fifth wheel and gooseneck trailers, which are key components for many heavy-duty truck setups.
There is also an available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert. When you indicate a turn or lane change, the system will let you know if any vehicle is traveling in your 2024 Silverado HD’s blind spot, including the area around your trailer. This will make changing lanes safer and easier.
Finally, many drivers encounter problems when they try to tow a trailer that exceeds their truck’s maximum capability. If you are like most folks, you don’t have access to a weighing station, so you have to use your best estimate when hitching a trailer. The available GCW Alert takes the guesswork out of trailering, letting you know if the combined weight of your Silverado HD and the trailer exceed your truck’s Gross Combined Weight Rating. The 2024 Silverado HD with this feature will save you a lot of worry when you go to hitch a trailer to your truck.
The Special Editions Are Here!
One of the most exciting things about the 2024 Silverado HD is the decision of Chevy to extend its popular off-road ZR2 model to these heavy-duty trucks. The Silverado HD ZR2 will feature key enhancements, like a specialized off-road suspension, skid plates, and a factory lift for greater ground clearance. This monster will be the envy of everyone you meet out on the trail.
Chevy also offers the 2024 Silverado 2500 HD in four new special editions. The Z71 Sport Edition and Z71 Chrome Sport Edition use Chevy’s popular off-road features to enhance the capabilities of your Silverado 2500 HD. People who need to keep the roads clear are going to love the Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition of the 2024 Silverado HD, with its amazing looks and capabilities. Finally, High Country Midnight Edition enhances the looks of this top trim of the 2024 Silverado 2500 HD. It adds a black hood vent, black lower skid plate, black bowtie badging, 20-inch high gloss black wheels, a black grille, black door handles, black body side moldings, black assist steps, and black mirror skull caps. (You probably already guessed it has a black exterior paint job.)
