Our 8 Favorite Features of the Silverado 1500

As your Easton Chevy dealer, we are incredibly familiar with every one of Chevy’s great offerings. That goes double for the ever-popular Silverado 1500, which is filled with all kinds of useful features. Some features you will find yourself using all the time, whether you use your truck for hard work, outdoor adventures, tailgate parties, or a little of everything. Other features are highly specialized and exclusive to trims like the off-road-ready ZR2 or the luxurious High Country. Today, we’re going to go over eight of the features that stand out to us as particularly innovative, useful, or just plain cool.
#1 – Multi-Flex Tailgate
The Silverado’s bed is tough and functional, with a dozen standard tie-downs that can keep your cargo in place and a best-in-class cargo volume of 89.1 cu.ft. For added convenience, you can get a power tailgate that can be raised or lowered at the push of a button. A 120-volt bed-mounted power outlet is also available, giving you the option to power your tools or tailgate party gear just about anywhere. While the standard gate has plenty to offer, you can bring things to the next level with the Multi-Flex Tailgate, which is available on all trim levels.
The Multi-Flex Tailgate has six different functions, giving you more options when it comes to loading, unloading, and accessing the bed:
- The primary gate can be opened manually, via a button on the key fob, or from a switch inside of the truck.
- The primary gate load stop can flip up to prevent extra-long items from slipping out of the bed.
- The inner gate folds down, creating a cut-out in the primary gate that lets you step in and reach further into the bed without climbing up into it.
- The inner gate can also fold down into a large step with a capacity of 375 lbs.
- When the primary gate is closed, the inner gate can fold out and act as a load stop to prevent longer items on the second tier from slitting out of the bed.
- Alternatively, when the truck is parked, the inner gate can act as a work surface at a more convenient height than the bed itself, perfect for using a laptop or looking at blueprints on a worksite.
#2 – Advanced Trailering System
The 2023 Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 lbs. That’s some serious weight, and it can make driving more difficult and dangerous, especially if the roads get slippery or the weather is especially windy. Luckily, the Silverado has a comprehensive suite of trailering features that help keep you safe while towing. The trailer blind zone alert helps change lanes while towing, letting you know when someone is in your expanded blind zone. Trailer Sway Control, Hill Start Assist, and Auto Grade Braking work together to account for the extra weight of the trailer, keeping the truck balanced and the driver in control under a variety of difficult circumstances. Chevy also offers a Trailering App that can get you off to a good start before you even leave the house, with pre-departure checklists, customized trailer profiles, and trailer tire pressure and temperature monitoring.

#3 – Driver Information Center
Instead of a set of analog dials and gauges behind the steering wheel, the available 12.3″ color driver information center puts a wide variety of information right in the driver’s natural line of sight. This makes it easy to keep track of warnings and other vehicle information without taking your eyes off the road for too long. The fully digital display is even customizable, so you can prioritize the information that you find most important.
#4 – Google Built-In
With Google Built-In, you’ll have the power of Google Assistant at your beck and call on the road. This means you can use voice commands to send texts, play music, adjust the cabin temperature, or even control compatible smart devices back home, all completely hands-free. Since Google is integrated into the infotainment system, you’ll also get access to useful Google apps. For example, Google Maps can give you turn-by-turn directions, and Google Play can let you listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more while you drive.
#5 – Super Cruise
Available on the High Country trim, Super Cruise takes cruise control to the next level by allowing you to go hands-free on over 400,000 miles of compatible roads throughout the United States and Canada. By using cameras, sensors, and LIDAR map data, the system can keep track of the speed of the traffic around you and detect curves in the road to keep you in your lane throughout the drive. It’s even functional while towing, so you can relax and let technology take the wheel for some of those grueling long hauls.
#6 – Off-Road Ready Features
The off-road trims of the 2023 Silverado have plenty of unique features that make them capable of tackling uneven surfaces and obstacles, especially the ZR2. Durable skid plates protect the truck’s underbody, keeping vital components from being damaged if you scrape against a stray rock or boulder in the mountains. A lifted suspension keeps the truck higher off the ground to prevent contact with those things in the first place. Locking front and rear differentials will come in handy if one or more of your tires gets stuck in the mud by letting the traction from the other tires step in and help get you moving again. Multimatic DSSV dampers keep your ride nice and smooth, even when the trail gets bumpy. While the Silverado’s off-road trucks are designed first and foremost to keep you out of sticky situations, they all come with clearly visible tow hooks, just in case you do end up in need of a rescue.

#7 – Full Camera Coverage
The Silverado is available with up to eight cameras that combine to offer fourteen different views. This includes standard features like a rearview camera, which is available in an HD version that gives you an extra-clear picture, and a bird’s eye view around your truck. But there are also some unique angles, like a bed view camera that allows you to check on the cargo, an auxiliary trailer camera that can provide transparent trailer view, and a hitch view camera to help you hitch up your trailer.
#8 – Driver-Assistance Features
Many of the high-tech driver-assistance features on the 2023 Silverado aren’t just available––they come standard across the entire lineup. These include Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and a Following Distance Indicator. IntelliBeam High Beam Assist is also standard, making it easy to drive on rural roads late at night without worrying about accidentally blinding other drivers.
