Since the 2021 Chevy Trax is a compact crossover, there is no need for a powertrain lineup or super strong engines. Plus, with only one engine offered, drivers do not need to waste time trying to figure out what the real difference is between a million and one options. This truly makes everything simpler. That said, one of the things that most people do look for in a small SUV is good gas mileage. And this is definitely something that you can look forward to if you’re thinking about purchasing the new Trax.
All Trax models are powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter ECOTEC 4-cylinder engine, which produces 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated with FWD or AWD and a 6-speed automatic transmission, making for a smooth, enjoyable ride. But the most important part: It is incredibly fuel-efficient.
The FWD model gets an impressive 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway, for a combined rating of 28 MPG. On the other hand, the AWD models are slightly less efficient but no less impressive, with 24 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined. With all of these numbers, it is clear how much money and earth savings you will rack up with this SUV. That said, driving the Trax is a truly fantastic experience.
Don’t be spooked by the fact that the 2021 Chevy Trax is a compact crossover. Big things come in small packages, and this ride has a lot more room than you might think. The overall length of the vehicle is 13.9-ft, and the wheelbase is measured at about 8.3-ft. The width without the side mirrors is approximately 5.8-ft, and the overall height of the vehicle stands 5.5-ft tall. But what does this all mean? It means that the interior of the Trax is incredibly spacious.
Inside the new Trax, there is plenty of room for up to 5 passengers. In the front, the headroom is 39.6-in. The legroom is measured at 40.8-in. The shoulder room is 54.1-in, and the hip room is 51.7-in. In the back, the headroom is about 38.8-in, and the legroom is 35.7-in. The shoulder room is approximately 52.8-in, and the hip room is about 50.7-in. With this much space, no passenger, whether sitting in the front or back, will ever be cramped or uncomfortable.
As for the cargo area, behind the second row of seating is 18.7 cu.ft. of room. If you need more space than that, you can fold the rear seats down to gain access to the maximum cargo area of 48.4 cu.ft. So whether you need to carry people, cargo, or both, the Trax has enough space.
There are only two trims available on the new 2021 Chevy Trax. The base model is known as the LS. Riding on 16-inch painted-aluminum wheels, it features body-colored exterior accents on the door handles, liftgate, and power-adjustable side mirrors. It also comes with daytime running lamps, a rear windshield wiper, and solar-absorbing glass to help keep the cabin cool during the summer.
Slipping behind the wheel of the LS model, you will notice that the cabin is very well equipped. The driver’s seat is manually adjustable four ways, and the 60/40 split-folding rear seats make it easy to configure the cabin. The infotainment interface is displayed on the 7-inch touchscreen that operates with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wifi hotspot. This model also features full power accessories, a rearview camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, steering wheel-mounted controls, and keyless entry.
The top-tier trim is called the LT. This model comes standard with the same wheels, but they can be changed for 18-in wheels in two different styles. Many of the exterior features from the LS carry over onto the LT model. However, there are a few changes, including heated side mirrors, tinted glass, and halogen projector-beam headlights. LED taillights and daytime running lights have also been added for enhanced visibility.
Looking at the inside of the LT, you will notice that many of the interior features also carry over from the LS. Again, there are several notable upgrades that you will love. These include a 120-volt power outlet, faux leather upholstery, remote start technology, and a front passenger under-seat storage compartment. A cargo shelf has also been added to the back, and cruise control comes standard.
If you want to upgrade your 2021 Chevy Trax LT model, even more, there are a few stand-alone options you can get. Keyless ignition/entry and a power-adjustable driver’s are two great features that you can add. Heated front seats are also available as well as safety systems such as blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist. With all of these options, the Trax is customizable and can fit any driver's needs.
When it comes to the new 2021 Chevy Trax, there may only be two trim levels to choose from, but there are various options and configurations too. It is also available in a couple of special editions, which include the Midnight Edition and the Sport Edition. Both are built off of the top-tier LT trim, so they come with many of the features offered on the luxury trim, plus a few additional or revised ones.
The Midnight Edition features Black exterior accents on the beltline moldings, door handles, front/back skid plates, and bowtie emblems. Riding on 18-in Gloss Black aluminum wheels and all-season Blackwell tires, this models’ darkened aesthetic gives it a more mysterious and intriguing style.
And the Sport Edition also gets Black exterior accents on the beltline moldings, front/back skid plates, and bowtie emblems. However, the door handles are body-colored. If you want to protect your floors, the Protection Package adds all-weather floor mats and a carpeted cargo mat. It also adds front and backsplash guards to the exterior of the vehicle to prevent water from getting up under the vehicle. Finally, the Road Trip Package adds roof rails and all-weather floor mats.
