When you are interested in a particular car, it can be hard to decide on if you should go for. Usually, you'd be looking at the current year's model or wait a little longer for an updated version. Sometimes the difference from one year to the next is pretty minor, with almost imperceptible changes that do not matter much in the long run. When a new generation starts, however, these differences can be quite substantial and really change the look of a vehicle. This is very much the case when considering the 2020 Chevy Corvette vs 2019 Chevy Corvette.

Even for a new generation, the differences between these two sports cars are pretty intense, primarily because of the major shift in engine placement. The 2019 Corvette features a traditional front-engine design that makes it look much like older Stingrays on the market. With the 2020 Corvette, however, an all-new mid-engine design is being tried out for the very first time, which shifts the overall look of the vehicle and provides much greater performance power. The engine in the 2020 model is also more powerful than in the previous generation, with a more responsive automatic transmission.

Inside, the 2020 Chevy Corvette is completely redesigned and looks not only different from the 2019 Corvette but also from just about anything else on the road. As you would expect with a new generation, the 2020 model also features several technological upgrades and innovations. Overall, the 2019 is a fantastic choice if you want a traditional Chevy Corvette with excellent features. But if you want the latest and greatest, then the allure of the 2020 Corvette cannot be denied.

  • Engine Features

The engine of the 2020 Chevy Corvette.

If you know nothing about the differences between the 2020 Chevy Corvette vs the 2019 Chevy Corvette, then you probably don't know about the engine positions in them. Which is fine because you are about to learn all you need to know. First and foremost, the significant difference between these two cars is that the 2019 model has a classic Stingray design with its engine at the front. The 2020 Corvette is an all-new generation with a mid-engine design that puts the engine near the rear axle, just behind the cabin of the vehicle.

The engine placement change makes a huge difference not only in terms of the look of the vehicle but also how it handles and performs. By shifting the engine back toward the rear-middle of the Corvette, the 2020 model has better handling since all of the engine's weight is now more centered. This change in design also shifts the rest of the vehicle forward, so it has a much smaller nose than the classic Stingray design and a larger rear section. The change in design has been somewhat controversial among some car-lovers, which was expected. So. if you prefer a traditional look, then the 2019 Corvette is a great choice, while the new design is innovative and unlike any other Stingray on the road.

Just as important as this new design, however, is the fact that the engine in the 2020 Chevy Corvette is an upgraded version of what you will find in the 2019 model. This makes perfect sense when you look at the 2020 generation as an evolution of what the previous generation offered. The 2019 Corvette features the very powerful LT1 engine: a 6.2L V8 that offers up to 460 hp and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. It is an excellent choice if you want a traditional design with terrific performance.

Building upon that, however, the 2020 Chevy Corvette has the LT2 engine, which is a 6.2L V8 that offers up to 490 hp and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. There is also an available performance exhaust package, which boosts those numbers up to 495 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This means that while the engine in the 2019 model is fantastic, the one in the 2020 Corvette is the next step up and offers more power and greater performance.

  • Transmission Options

When choosing between the 2019 Chevy Corvette and the 2020 Corvette, consider the type of transmission that you want in your vehicle. You get more options with the 2019 model, including a manual transmission, but the 2020 Corvette has a more responsive automatic. This will indeed come down to your personal preferences but consider your options carefully.

In the 2019 Chevy Corvette, you can get a 7-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic. No manual transmission is currently available for the 2020 Chevy Corvette, and all signs indicate that will not change any time soon. So if you insist on a manual transmission in your Corvette, then you should choose the 2019 model.

However, if you prefer an automatic transmission, then the 2020 Chevy Corvette is a better choice. While it has an 8-speed automatic just like the 2019 model, the 8-speed in the 2020 Corvette is a dual-clutch transmission that is much more responsive and shifts gears a lot faster than the automatic in the 2019 Corvette. This is a significant part of why the 2019 Corvette can go from 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds, while the 2020 model can beat that time hit 60 mph in less than 3.0 seconds.

  • Interior Design

There are several trim levels to choose from with different options in terms of leather seating and detailing, as well as an 8-inch driver information display. There are a couple of different sound systems to choose from, including a fantastic 10-speaker Bose sound system. The inside of the 2019 Corvette makes driving a pleasure and really showcases everything you would expect in it.

While the interior of the 2020 Chevy Corvette, is an entirely new beast. The shift to a mid-engine design pushes the cabin forward, resulting in a shorter nose on the vehicle. As a result, you, as the driver, have a better view of the road ahead of you. All while making the front dash and display have all shifted down to take advantage of that. There is a 12-inch driver display and all the controls you would expect, but the controls now run in a vertical line between the driver and passenger to open up your view. There is also an available 14-speaker Bose sound system for truly remarkable audio while you hit the road.

While the 2019 Chevy Corvette is the pinnacle of the previous generation, some technological options in the 2020 Corvette simply cannot be beaten. The performance data recorder has been upgraded and improved, and a head-up display is still available. There is also an all-new GPS-enabled nose-lift system that lets you raise the front end of the vehicle to avoid scraping it on steep driveways and speed bumps. You can program locations you frequent into the system, and the 2020 Corvette will use GPS to detect them.
