Since its inception in 1911, Chevy has been dedicated to building high-quality vehicles. Early in the first years of manufacturing, decisions were made to incorporate features that were often reserved for more luxurious vehicles, a choice that elevated Chevy to the status it enjoys today as one of the world's top-selling brands. The success of the company all began with the Series C Classic Six, a beautifully crafted and expensive car produced in 1913 under the watchful eye of Louis Chevrolet himself. While the Classic Six was well-received, co-founder Durant formulated another vehicle called the Series H to be produced as a more affordable option.
Though Durant's choice to focus on affordability eventually led to Chevrolet leaving the company, the decision made the company successful. To this day, Chevy builds quality vehicles made for affordable prices. Over the years, Chevy has produced countless iconic vehicles like the 1957 Chevrolet, Corvette, Camaro, and the popular C/K line of pickup trucks, which eventually became the Silverado. One of the oldest nameplates in Chevy history is the Suburban, introduced in 1935 to be the ultimate cargo and passenger carrier. It continues to be that carrier today and is the world's oldest nameplate in continuous production.
Chevy continues to produce noteworthy vehicles for today's market, from the well-loved Tahoe to the ever-tough Silverado, and currently sells futuristic models like the all-electric Bolt EV. Here at Raceway Chevrolet, we maintain a massive inventory of high-quality used Chevy cars, trucks, and SUVs with options for every type of driver and every type of budget. Whether you are looking for an older used model or a recent model year vehicle with only a handful of miles on it, we can help. Here are some of the top used Chevy models to consider when you shop with us.
In 1958, the Chevy Impala made its debut on the automotive scene as a top-tier trim called the Bel Air Impala before it became its own nameplate for 1959. It began as a large sedan that could be had for a few early years with a V8 engine under the hood and was considered a top-shelf vehicle until Chevy brought in the Caprice in 1966. For its sixth generation in 1977, the Impala survived the culling of several large sedans from the Chevy lineup to become favored as a fleet car often used by police forces and taxi services. By the mid-1980s, Chevy decided it was time to retire the Impala. A comeback in 1994 brought the Impala SS back to life for two model years in which it retained the smaller size but was built with a sport-tuned suspension, V8 engine, and limited-slip differential. It could achieve zero to 60 in seven seconds.
After resurrecting the Impala with such lofty performance ideals, Chevy once again made the decision to discontinue the line in favor of producing SUVs. Then, with the retirement of the Chevy Lumina, the Impala was given another chance to prove its worth in 2000, its eighth generation. At first, Chevy kept the Impala basic with only two trims, and then it was once again a fleet favorite for its ninth generation from 2006 when it expanded to four trims. This generation lasted until 2016, and Impalas included luxury features like SiriusXM satellite radio, perforated leather seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. For its final and tenth generation, the Impala held its status as a full-size sedan. It featured a 2.4L four-cylinder base engine for the first time, though it also included HD radio, Chevy MyLink, and had the option of adaptive cruise control. This generation lasted until 2020, when the Impala was retired for the final time.
Like the Impala, the Silverado began as the top trim level of another model––in this case, the C/K series of trucks. In 1999, the Silverado became its own nameplate as a light-duty pickup that shared the same platform as the Suburban. It could be optioned with one of three cab or bed sizes and had three engine options. This first generation ran through 2006, and the Silverado 1500 brought trucks the first automatic transmission and the first tow/haul mode during this time. With its second generation, trims were expanded to five, engine options upgraded to six choices, and Chevy gave the Silverado FlexFuel technology to make it more fuel-efficient.
By 2014, the fourth generation of Silverado trucks saw more fine-tuning than big leaps in design changes. Engine technology, steering systems, and a new six-speed transmission subtly improved the drivability and power of the Silverado. The most recent generation introduced in 2019 brought on a full redesign. Lighter, stronger, and more spacious than its previous generation, the Silverado 1500 also expanded to eight trim levels. In its current generation, this is the most powerful, luxurious Silverado of all time, and technology like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have become standard across all trims.
Chevy's midsize truck, the Colorado, began as a replacement for the Chevy S10 in 2004. It had little in common with its predecessor, which Chevy fully redesigned. Starting with a standard 2.8L inline-four engine, the Colorado offered only three trims and one other engine option. Three cab sizes were available, though this determined the box size of the truck. Upper trims featured luxuries like heated front seats with lumbar control and a CD player that could change between six CDs. When the second generation began in 2015, the Colorado had taken a short break to come back as another full redesign with more passenger space and a more modern exterior. Technology like WiFi connectivity, automatic climate control, and forward collision alert are all available in this generation, along with a new Z71 off-road variant.
For its 1992 debut, the Chevy Tahoe was a two-door SUV that shared a platform with the Silverado. However, a four-door option became available in 1995. The Tahoe came with AutoTrac four-wheel drive and a 5.7L V8 engine with the option of a V8 turbo-diesel engine for more power. The second-generation redesign nixed the two-door body in 1999, and the exterior embraced a more aerodynamic shape. Engines with more horsepower were added, and the Tahoe featured upscale amenities like rear-seat entertainment and a Bose audio system. This generation also introduced a new Z71 off-road trim.
From 2007 to 2014, the Tahoe was reshaped for the GMT900 platform, and the new standard V8 engine offered cylinder-deactivation tech to save fuel. The fourth-generation Tahoe, ending in 2021, took yet another redesign to utilize the GMT K2XX platform, and improved ride quality and a quieter interior ensued. Fold-flat seats for both back rows of seats were standard, and the uppermost trim could option magnetic ride control.
With the first generation in 1935, the Chevrolet Carryall Suburban was the first truck-based wagon, and it had room for eight. It didn't receive four-wheel drive until 1957 in its fourth generation as a retro-fit job, and it would be the fifth generation in 1960 that four-wheel drive would be installed in the factory. 1967 was the first year to install a single rear door for passenger access! In 1981, during the seventh generation, the Suburban was upgraded with shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive, and in 1992 the eighth generation brought on the new GMT 400 platform shared with the GMC Yukon.
The ninth-generation Suburban launched in 2000 with the retirement of its previous engines to introduce the Vortec choices, plus upscale features like the Autoride load-leveling suspension system and Quadrasteer were the exciting new options. With the tenth generation, the Suburban exterior took on a softer shaping, and two-tone leather seats were available in the Z71 off-road variant. For its eleventh generation starting in 2015, the boxy design returns to the Suburban, along with improved interior insulation, enhanced ride quality, and more efficient engines. Finally, the twelfth generation, which debuted in 2021, stretched the wheelbase to give it more passenger and cargo space, improved technology, and an available turbocharged diesel engine option.
Chevy came out with the K5 Blazer in 1969 to compete with the newly-released Ford Bronco. It was based on the C/K pickup chassis and offered six or eight-cylinder engines, just like its C/K-series pickup sibling.
The SUV underwent several transformations throughout the years. In 1973, Chevrolet's focus was on going bigger, as the Blazer came out with a larger wheelbase and longer overall dimensions. However, in 1983, Chevy changed things up by going smaller and offering the midsize S-10 Blazer.
The Blazer went through several engine transformations over the decades, including getting powerful V8 engines in the 1980s. In a surprising move, Chevy stopped production on the Blazer in 2005. But, the Blazer returned in 2019 as a sporty Camaro-inspired midsize SUV. With aggressive styling, a powerful V6 engine option, and plenty of technology, the modern Blazer is a great fit for the Nazareth area.
After Chevy stopped putting out the Blazer, it needed something to replace that SUV-sized hole in the lineup. That's when the Equinox was born––it came out in 2004, just in time to make up for the loss of the Blazer. The Equinox would be Chevy's official entryway into the world of crossovers. The 2005 to 2009 generation sat on a unibody platform with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive available and a 3.4L V6 engine. In 2008, Chevy introduced the Equinox Sport to the lineup, which boasted a 3.6L engine and nimble handling.
Between the years 2010 and 2017, the Equinox took on a standard 2.4L engine, seeing improved fuel economy. Within that time frame, Chevy began introducing standard safety features we often see today, like lane assist and forward collision warning. The year 2016 saw the addition of the backup camera and a refreshed look. Finally, in 2018, Chevy redesigned the Equinox for the third time, adding an efficient 1.5L turbocharged engine, an updated cabin, and a modern infotainment system.
The Chevy Traverse came out in 2009, which would clearly become an era when Chevy took an interest in crossover SUVs. It was built on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, boasting three rows of passenger seating and either all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive with a standard V6 engine. Chevy included plenty of luxury features, adding an optional panoramic moon roof and upgrades for the interior and exterior.
Between the years 2013 and 2017, Chevy began improving safety and entertainment features. We saw the addition of forward collision warning, lane assist, and airbags between the front seats. We also saw onboard WiFi added, along with OnStar and USB ports. The Traverse was fully redesigned in 2018, with a new look that was sportier and more athletic than the previous version, which resembles more of a minivan. An available turbocharged four-cylinder engine was also added for improved efficiency.
What are the benefits of buying a used vehicle versus a new vehicle? Well, there are certain guarantees that you acquire when buying used as opposed to buying new. While buying new gives drivers the luxury of knowing that they're the first to own the vehicle, the downside is that if there are any major factory recalls or problems, sometimes you may not know about it until you encounter said problems. This has happened on more than enough occasions, even with some of the most popular brands on the market.
If you buy used, you know that the vehicle has already been put to the test and put through its paces. Concerns over the reliability of recall services or major factory repairs have already passed. When you buy used, you know you're getting a vehicle that has already run and continues to run, and that's a lot more of a safe guarantee for reliability than buying brand new and entering into an unknown space where the length of the car's life cycle is a complete toss-up.
The other benefit of buying used is obviously the price. When you purchase a brand new vehicle, there's not only the initial cost that you have to consider but also rapid depreciation and higher insurance rates, which can quickly increase the total costs of the purchase. With used cars, you can take solace in finding vehicles available in great condition at far lower prices. And when it comes time to trade in for a newer model, you will even get more of your money back. We know that Nazareth has a large population of families who are planning their finances for the future, and we believe that buying used can be a great part of that plan.
Even though buying new may have its advantage of knowing that there has been no previous owner and no history with repairs, it's also that same factor that makes it slightly riskier given that you're paying more and you may not know just how much you can get out of it. With used cars, you can safely go in knowing you're paying a lower price, which can save you a lot in the long run. You can also check the vehicle repair history to see what sort of work was done on the vehicle or if any major work was done at all. These benefits certainly help car shoppers looking to buy used when working with a tight budget.
In addition to buying used, there's also the option to buy Certified Pre-Owned (CPO). What is CPO? It means a used vehicle that meets rigorous factory standards to ensure that car shoppers are receiving the highest quality used vehicle available. With Chevy, buying a Certified Pre-Owned model means that you're getting a vehicle with a clean history that is less than six years old and has fewer than 75,000 miles on it.
Raceway Chevrolet's CPO vehicles come with extended Chevy factory warranties, including powertrain coverage that spans up to six years and 100,000 miles. The warranty also includes roadside assistance in case of breakdowns, as well as courtesy transportation during the warranty period so you can still get around on the rare occasion that your vehicle needs to be repaired.
We also provide a Certified Pre-Owned bumper-to-bumper warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles. However, we doubt you will need to make use of either of these warranties. Before we put a CPO vehicle up for sale, we put each one through a comprehensive 172-point inspection and reconditioning process, ensuring that only the highest quality vehicles are sold under the CPO label.
