Chevy's Flagship Truck

Originally introduced in the 1970s as a trim level on the popular Chevy C/K series full-size trucks, "Silverado" became the name for Chevy's flagship line of trucks in 1999. This signaled that Chevy was ready to dominate the truck market for the coming millennium, introducing a truck that was long on features for a public that was discovering the benefits of choosing a pickup.

Today, the Silverado family encompasses three exceptional models. The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a full-size truck that provides the ability to serve as a family vehicle and a work truck all at the same time. The Chevy Silverado 2500 HD increases the size and power, making it ideal for folks who need a little extra strength for towing and hauling. Finally, the Chevy Silverado 3500 HD is the largest of the trio, a true heavy-duty truck that can handle the toughest tasks you can imagine.

Each Chevy Silverado model is offered with a number of different trim levels, drivetrains, engine options, and cab styles. For example, you can find the Silverado 1500 in many different trims, from the basic WT that serves as the ideal work truck to the High Country that is the height of luxury. There is also the ZR2 that is built to handle the roughest off-road trails you will ever encounter. The folks at Chevrolet understand that each driver has different needs, as well as their own budget. This is why the brand offers many different trim levels for the three models in the Silverado lineup.

This also applies to powertrains and drivetrains. There are those drivers who love the extra traction provided by a 4x4 truck. This option will not only help you out in inclement weather but also allow you to take your truck off the highway onto an unpaved worksite, increasing its versatility. Other drivers prefer a truck with rear-wheel drive that will increase the towing capacity and fuel economy.

The same goes for engines. Some of these engines are smaller, like the high-output turbocharged I-4 featured on many Silverado 1500 trims, giving you exceptional fuel economy. Others are built for speed, like the massive 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 featured on the Silverado 1500. Then there are those engines built for strength, such as the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 offered on the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD. These engines maximize the towing capability, so you can get the largest and heaviest trailers to your workplace or campsite.

Chevy understands that each driver might have a different preference for cab style. This is why you can find a Silverado 1500 or Silverado HD with three different cab sizes. The regular cab has one row of seats and is perfect if you plan to use your Silverado primarily for work. On the other hand, if you are going to use your truck as a family vehicle, then a Crew Cab with two full rows of seats will probably work best. For those in the middle who want a truck for work and play, then the Double Cab style with two rows of seats but a little less legroom than a Crew Cab might be the best choice since these usually give you more capability when it comes to towing and hauling.

Ready for a New Silverado?

Buying a Silverado, new or used, is always a great choice when you are looking for superior value in a truck. However, nothing can compare to being the first owner of a brand-new Silverado. There are a number of reasons for this.

When you buy a new truck, you get to decide on all the features, starting with the trim level, cab style, and engine, and running to such things as the infotainment system and available safety features. If you are looking for a Silverado on the used market, you may not be able to get all the boxes checked like you can when buying new.

Shopping for a brand-new Silverado also means you get the latest innovations. Whether functional features like a new style tailgate or technological additions like the latest infotainment or safety system, you get the most recent improvements on your Silverado when you buy new. This can even be a more powerful and efficient engine.

Another reason to buy a new Silverado is that you can have better control over the wear and tear your truck is going to endure during its time on the road. Let's face it, everyone drives a little differently. When you buy a used truck, there is always the chance the prior owner rode the truck a little harder than you would. When you buy new, you get to take care of your truck from day one.

Buying new also has a psychological component to it. Most people like to be the first, and there is nothing quite like the thrill of being the first to drive a new truck off the lot. This can be you if you decide to buy your next new Silverado from us.

What's New for the 2023 Silverado?

The 2023 Silverado represents the latest in a grand lineage of trucking. Chevy will continue to offer the Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD with a great choice of engines, drivetrains, and trims, carrying over the successful 2022 model to the next year. This includes such popular trims as the High Country and LTZ.

Meanwhile, Chevy has made a number of incremental changes to the 2023 Silverado 1500. Some of these are cosmetic, while others are mechanical. For 2023, Chevy offers the Silverado 1500 with three new exterior paint options. Radiant Red Tintcoat replaces Red Hot, while Sterling Gray Metallic and Harvest Bronze Metallic take the place of the discontinued Silver Ice Metallic.

When it comes to mechanical improvements, Chevy has given a boost to the available 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel I-6 on the Silverado 1500. This will result in the output improving from 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque for 2023. This will result in a stronger, more capable Silverado 1500 with the Duramax turbo-diesel, although the maximum towing capacity will remain unchanged at 13,300 lbs.
